Piano Lessons with Jackie
FAQ
Do I need a piano at home?
Yes. Students must have acoustic piano or digital piano for home practice. The quality of your student’s home instrument plays a significant role in their potential for success. Acoustic pianos should be tuned at least once a year, and kept in working order. If you prefer a digital piano, I recommend investing in a full-size keyboard (88 keys) with weighted, touch-sensitive keys and pedals. The piano should be accompanied with proper lighting and a bench of appropriate height. I highly encourage students to have a real acoustic piano after 1-2 year of lessons.
Do you offer private and group lessons?
Greenleaf Studios only offers private piano lessons in order to promote growth of each student at his/her own pace.
How long are the lessons?
Lesson are 30 minutes once per week. A short meeting is scheduled prior to the student’s first lesson, so that I can meet and talk to the students about their background, interests, goals, etc.
How often are lessons taught?
Consistency is key, so students will have a lesson once a week.
Do you accept beginners?
Yes! Most of my students begin piano with me at a young age with no previous instruction.
What ages to you teach?
Ages 6+! Adults too!! Research has shown that playing an instrument is a key component to better brain health.
How much practice is necessary?
Regular home practice is essential for student success. Students are expected to get 4 days of practice each week. Parental involvement in home practice is crucial for student success. Please help your student to establish and stick to a practice routine, and see that practice time is free of distractions. If you are the parent of an elementary age student, please plan to sit with your child for at least a portion of their daily practice time.
The following recommendations serve as a guide to achieve satisfactory results based on your child’s age:
- 7-8 years old: 10-15 minutes / at least 4 days a week
- 9-11 years old: 15-20 minutes / at least 4 days a week
- 12-14 years old: 25-30 minutes / at least 4 days a week
- 15 and older: 30-45 minutes / at least 4 days a week
How much do lessons cost?
30 minute lessons are $35 per lesson & are billed in packages of 5 lessons.
60 minute lessons are also available.
Do you hold piano recitals?
Yes! Greenleaf Studios holds 2 recitals per year, one in the Spring & the other in the Fall (dates TBD). All piano students will prepare and perform 1 song for each recital. (Both recitals will be dependent on the current status of gatherings per the Mono County Health Department.)
Are there any additional costs?
Students are responsible for purchasing their own copy of music books according to their level and can be found for approximately $25 online.
How do I sign up?
Please email Jackie if you have interest in becoming a student. Submitting the email inquiry will automatically put you on her wait list. Please indicate your preferred day and time for lesson and you will be contacted when that time slot becomes available.
